Dr. Thomas Fraychineaud is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip & knee replacement, revision joint replacement, robotic-assisted surgery, & fracture care.
He completed advanced fellowship training in adult reconstruction at the University of Minnesota following an orthopedic surgery residency at George Washington University. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College & holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
Robotic-assisted technology can provide additional information for planning & performing selected hip & knee replacement procedures. Depending on the system being used, the technology may create a three-dimensional model of the joint & help the surgeon plan bone preparation, implant size, alignment, & positioning.
Robotic assistance is not necessary or appropriate for every patient. Dr. Fraychineaud evaluates each case individually & explains whether robotic-assisted or conventional instrumentation is better suited to the patient's anatomy, diagnosis, & surgical needs.
Dr. Fraychineaud evaluates adult fractures & develops treatment plans based on the fracture pattern, surrounding soft-tissue injury, bone quality, medical health, & functional needs.
How can I thank you? Not just for your professional skills but for the thought and concern you displayed while treating me.

You may benefit from an evaluation when hip or knee pain is persistent, limits walking or daily activities, interferes with sleep, or no longer responds adequately to nonsurgical treatment.
An appointment does not mean that surgery will automatically be recommended. The first step is determining the cause of your symptoms and reviewing the full range of appropriate treatment options.
No. Robotic-assisted systems do not independently perform joint replacement surgery. The surgeon controls the procedure and uses the technology to support planning, bone preparation, alignment, or implant positioning.
The suitability of robotic assistance depends on the procedure, available system, anatomy, and individual clinical circumstances.
Partial knee replacement resurfaces only the compartment affected by arthritis. Total knee replacement treats multiple compartments of the knee.
Partial replacement may preserve more healthy bone and ligament tissue, but it is appropriate only when arthritis is sufficiently localized and the supporting structures of the knee meet specific criteria.
Recovery varies according to the procedure, preoperative strength and mobility, age, medical health, home support, and rehabilitation progress.
Many patients begin standing and walking with assistance soon after surgery, but strength, endurance, balance, and confidence continue to improve over time. Dr. Fraychineaud and the rehabilitation team will provide instructions specific to your operation and progress.
Persistent hip or knee pain can make everyday movement increasingly difficult. A specialized orthopedic evaluation can help clarify the cause of your symptoms and determine whether nonsurgical care, joint replacement, revision surgery, or another treatment may be appropriate. Schedule an appointment with Thomas Fraychineaud, MD to discuss your diagnosis, treatment options, & personal mobility goals.
